Professional footballer with medical ambitions

Gabriel, 34, is a professional footballer – a career many people dream of. But his own dream has long been to become a doctor one day. With this goal in mind, he chose to study at Komvux.

More prepared than during secondary/high school

To improve his grades and qualify to study medicine, Gabriel has studied at Komvux on two different occasions.

“I have mostly studied by myself and taken tests. Achieving my goals required both planning and discipline, which I didn't have at secondary school, as I was going to football training almost seven days a week. That didn’t leave me much time to study enough to get top grades. It was different at Komvux, I was now able to manage my time myself, prepare myself properly and focus on my studies.”

Close contact with teachers

As Gabriel was mostly distance learning, having information and teaching material readily available was important.

“A lot of the course content was online, but I also kept in close contact with the teachers at Åsö gymnasium. They were really helpful and when I emailed them questions, they always answered straight away.”

A good experience

Gabriel feels his time at Komvux has been very rewarding. He has now hung up his football boots and is going to start studying medicine at the Karolinska Institute in spring 2019.

“It's going to be really exciting. I feel very well prepared and am so pleased Komvux has given me the chance of a new career.”
